FAQs

What is 3D/4D ultrasound imaging?

Rendering a two dimensional ultrasound image into the third dimension is known as 3D imaging. The addition of time or motion creates the fourth dimension. Pixel Baby aims to simultaneously provide 3D/4D images of your baby throughout your pregnancy as well as a positive bonding experience for mum and family. It is elective and does not replace the medical diagnostic scans you perform throughout your pregnancy.

CAN I BRING MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY?

We have enough room to comfortably accommodate mum being scanned as well as five (5) additional adult guests.

DO YOU DO ULTRASOUNDS FOR MULTIPLES?

Absolutely! We love scanning women having multiples. Unlike other companies we do not charge extra as we believe this is just unfair! All we do is evenly distribute the time of the scan across each of your babies. For example, if you are booked in for a 30 min session and have twins, we’d spend 15 mins scanning each baby. If you had the same 30 min session, but had triplets, then we’d spend 10 mins scanning each baby and so on and so forth. If you have more than 3 babies, then its probably best to give us a call and we can discuss a customised package.

DO I NEED A DOCTORS REFERRAL?

No, you do not need a referral from your Doctor as a 3D ultrasound is performed as an elective request. It does not however replace your routine medical or diagnostic scans requested by your doctor.

WHEN CAN I HAVE A 3D ULTRASOUND DONE?

We offer elective non-diagnostic ultrasounds anytime from 8 weeks gestation. Before 8 weeks, you often need an internal ultrasound to see anything which we do not offer at Pixel Baby.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME FOR A 3D ULTRASOUND?

Various factors influence the image quality of a scan, including maternal body, foetal and placental position and amount of amniotic fluid. Generally, the gender can be seen from 14 weeks onwards.  The best 3D/4D images are usually obtained between 28-32 weeks, taking into account the above mentioned factors.

DO I NEED AN EMPTY OR FULL BLADDER?

We would like you to completely empty your bladder 10 minutes before your appointment time. There are toilets available at our studio. A glass of juice 20mins before your appointment will get bub all active so we can get the best chance at getting the perfect Pixel Baby Picture.

IS ULTRASOUND HARMFUL?

Studies have shown that ultrasounds are not harmful to the mother or baby and have an excellent safety record.

They don’t have the same risks at all as x-rays which use ionising radiation. 3D/4D/5D ultrasound utilises low-frequency sound waves to look inside the body.

WHAT IF I’M LATE TO MY APPOINTMENT?

We are normally back to back with appointments everyday so unfortunately, we can only wait for a few minutes before commencing the scan. We want to ensure our technician has adequate time to provide you with the best images and experience possible.

However, if your husband is late for example and you arrive on time, it might be best to start the scan and then our receptionist can bring your partner to our room when they arrive if you wish. Alternatively, if your scan is a 30 minute appointment for example, and you’re 15 minutes late, we would then just only have 15 minutes left for your scan and we would just try and get as much done in that timeframe as we could.

CAN I LISTEN TO MY BABIES HEARTBEAT DURING THE ULTRASOUND

Definitely. The machines we use have the ability to let you listen in to your babies beating heart after the 12th week of gestation. It’s such a great moment to hear when you’re pregnant! We also try and make sure your baby’s heartbeat is on the video recording for you to take home to enjoy over and over again or you could even purchase one of our heartbeat teddies where we record the babies heartbeat and put the sound inside a plush toy animal of your choice. These make a great keepsake or a comforter for your baby when he or she arrives.

How clear will the pictures be?

The images are usually excellent.  However, we aren’t able to guarantee perfect pictures of your baby because they all scan differently. Factors that affect the quality of the ultrasound transmission are the gestational age, placenta position, amount of fluid surrounding the baby, body tissue, baby position and the mother’s condition can all influence the quality of pictures.

We strongly recommend that you drink at least eight glasses of water per day, for 3 days prior to your appointment. This increases the amniotic fluid around the baby, assisting the clarity of images.

We do endeavour to capture the highest grade images that can be achieved on the day.  However, if the technician decides the ultrasound scan is not possible for reasons listed above, the deposit is not refundable as it covers the technicians time.

what should i wear to my appointment?

We recommend that you wear two-piece outfits for ease and comfort. Easy access to the baby makes for a comfortable and enjoyable experience.

will the ultrasound give me any medical information?

No. We do not replace the diagnostic ultrasounds your doctor will order. We offer no form of medical advice throughout the session and cannot provide measurements of the baby or establish a due date. If you have any concerns regarding your pregnancy, you must seek advice from your medical provider.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule my appointment?

Our ultrasound appointments are very popular, so we require 24 hours notice if you need to reschedule your ultrasound appointment. If you need to cancel your appointment, your deposit is non-refundable.
